10 Ways You Can Spread the Word About Barefoot Week 2011
Yesterday, we announced that Barefoot Week 2011 is only one week away & we couldn’t be more excited…
Today, we wanted to give you a few ideas on how you can help spread the word about the 1.5 billion people around the world that don’t have adequate footwear.
10. Go Barefoot Online
Change your Twitter Avatar, Facebook Profile, etc. to a picture of your bare feet. You will be helping to bring about awareness that more than 300 million children and 1.5 billion adults worldwide do not have footwear. Be sure to post a caption about why your picture is of bare feet! Something like: My feet are bare for Soles4Souls’ Barefoot Week. Learn more on giveshoes.org.
9. Post a Barefoot Status
You can post once, or one a day for 7 days… Here are a few mock tweets of Facebook updates you could write:

8. Write a Blog Post
We know a lot of you out there are bloggers… Whether you write about being a mom, an organizer, a runner, or a student, you could use your blog to spread the word with hundreds of friends.
7. Make a T-Shirt
It doesn’t have to be anything special, but making a t-shirt is a great way to spread the word about the millions of barefoot children worldwide (and its pretty fun…)
6. Take a
Barefoot Hike around your neighborhood
For those of you who want to know what it’s like for the 1.5 billion people who don’t have a decent pair of shoes, try walking around your neighborhood barefoot. (you can even stay on the sidewalk). This is a great opportunity for you to not only see what other people go through, but also spread the word about Soles4Souls to anyone who might stop and offer you their shoes.
8 year old Naveen Bhat rode his bike barefoot around his neighborhood to tell his friends about Soles4Souls…
5. Call a Friend
Even though social media is the coolest thing since sliced bread, you can still spread the word the “old-fashioned” way… using the telephone.
4. Post a sign at work, church or local fitness center
That’s exactly what Karen Boncher & her daughter did to raise awareness for Soles4Souls & it worked great! She also gave some other great examples on places you can spread the word.
3. Add a banner to your website or blog
Here’s a link to several banners that will direct the people that visit your blog our website to our cause. This is a great option for those wanting to constantly spread the word about Soles4Souls!
2. Write a letter to your neighborhood or Home Owners Association, telling them you’re collecting shoes
We’re going to assume that your neighbors probably have at least one pair of shoes that they don’t wear anymore. Why not be the person who collects them? You can easily register for a shoe drive and then let them know “Hey, I’m collecting any old shoes you might have to help donate them to people who’ve never owned a pair! Care to donate?”
1. Go Barefoot to work, school or church
The easiest people to talk to about Soles4Souls are your friends. Whether it is your coworkers or peers you see every day or your friends from church, those you’re closest to are those that will listen most. And you can spark the conversation by going barefoot. (but you might want to put on a pair of shoes before you go into a restaurant of gas station…)
We believe that every photo, tweet, status update, sign, and message will help Soles4Souls continue to help people around the world!
What other ways can people spread the word about Barefoot Week 2011?
3 Comments:
A few things:
1) Do I have permission to post your logo on my website so people can see that they can visit Soles4Souls?
2) My shoe drive is over and the shoes are coming. I have not sent them to y’all yet.
3) Love what y’all do and will try my best spread the word about Barefoot Week. If I can get a group picture that would be great! I have a hike this weekend, so I’ll see what I can do. I might have a few foot-conciouse people lol!
4)Is there anyway to ensure that shoes I collect go to Missouri or those affected by recent tornados and floods in the Midwest area?
Thanks,
Derek
